What We Do

The Tata-Cornell Institute for Agriculture and Nutrition is a long-term research initiative that develops and assesses innovative, food systems-based approaches to reducing poverty and improving nutrition and livelihoods in the developing world, with a specific focus on India.

Who We Are

Led by Director Prabhu Pingali, TCI has a diverse, multidisciplinary team based at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, as well as in Mumbai and New Delhi, India. TCI staff, scholars, and faculty fellows represent a broad range of academic disciplines—from economics and development sociology to international nutrition and food science—all converging around the goal of improving nutrition outcomes in the developing world.

Projects

FPO-Led Small Farm Market Access Models

As demand for agricultural products rises, small farms have an opportunity to play a big role and reap many benefits, if they are able to join together to form farmer producer organizations to increase their aggregate size. TCI is undertaking a study to assess the challenges facing FPO models in India and Mexico.
